CLINICAL SERVICES

Choose care with a clear purpose.

Understand what each pathway can support, what to prepare and when an in-person assessment is the safer next step.

General clinical consultation

A general consultation supports structured discussion of a new non-emergency concern, an ongoing condition or a health question that needs professional guidance. The clinician may ask about symptoms, their duration and severity, relevant medical history, medication, allergies and previous treatment.

New concerns

Discuss symptoms that are stable enough for a scheduled assessment and do not show emergency warning signs.

Ongoing conditions

Review progress, treatment questions and agreed monitoring needs where remote follow-up is clinically appropriate.

Health guidance

Receive personalised explanations and prevention guidance within the clinician’s professional scope.

What an online consultation cannot guarantee

A remote discussion may not replace a physical examination, laboratory testing, imaging or direct observation. The clinician may recommend in-person care.

Follow-up and continuity

Follow-up is most useful when it has a defined purpose. This may include reviewing improvement, checking whether warning signs have developed, clarifying an existing care plan or determining whether escalation is needed.

  • Keep previous instructions, prescriptions and test results available.
  • Note any changes since the previous consultation.
  • List medicines taken, missed doses and possible side effects.
  • Record home measurements only when you know how they were obtained.
  • Seek urgent care instead of waiting for follow-up if the condition worsens rapidly.

Preventive health guidance

Prevention discussions can cover health behaviours, screening conversations, immunisation questions and risk-factor awareness. Recommendations must consider age, sex, medical history, pregnancy status, family history and applicable Kenyan guidance.

Maternal and reproductive-health guidance

Non-emergency consultations may support education, birth-preparedness discussions, postpartum follow-up and referral guidance. Heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, convulsions, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness or severe headache with visual disturbance require urgent in-person assessment.

Pregnancy and postpartum emergencies

Do not rely on online consultation when emergency warning signs are present. Call emergency services or proceed immediately to an appropriate facility.
